Two young people in conversation

Legacy is a global campaign by Common Purpose which invests in young people across the world so they can become a connected generation of leaders with a clear vision for what their legacy will be.

Investing in the next generation

Legacy initiatives are for young people aged 18-25, from across a city, a country or a region. They are an amazingly diverse group: some in employment, some not; some studying, some volunteering. Many will be passionate activists, others will be finding their own causes. Legacy reaches young people from very different backgrounds and beliefs, but they all have one thing in common: their generation.

Legacy Initiatives challenge a generation to think 20-30 years ahead to a significant anniversary for their city or country and envision what their legacy will be.

Why Legacy?

Because the world needs:

A new generation of young leaders to come through who have the commitment and ability to bridge divides.

Stronger links across generations, which help them to work better together.

A broader base of leadership.

Established leaders to hear and support young people with big ideas and long-term thinking.

Your support can help Legacy to deliver impact in three different but connected areas:

Human Capital

The individual learning outcomes they develop, especially their ability to work with different people (Cultural Intelligence)

Social Capital

The valuable connections created between peers and across generations in a city or country

Civic Capital

The tangible actions and outcomes of the learners ideas that will make a difference in a city or country

"The SG100 Young Leaders Programme allows young, motivated individuals to view issues through a different lens and to develop their leadership skills. I believe that young leaders in Singapore will benefit from attending this programme as they are given the skills and opportunities to implement their ideas and lead change in their communities."

How it works

What happens on a Legacy programme?

All Legacy initiatives build the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and human capital of a generation.

The experiential programmes bring young people together to address a local challenge their communities are facing right now. They will either go out into their communities or come together online to investigate issues, collaborate, hold difficult conversations and work up ideas. They will then innovate, test, refine and either implement their ideas or present them to leaders in their city.

Legacy programmes are intergenerational, giving participants the opportunity to work with 30–50 established leaders who act as group advisors, speakers and immersion hosts. These established leaders benefit from seeing the world through the eyes of the next generation. The programmes can take various formats – both in person (over 3 days) and online (over 4 half days) – getting young people to work together in different ways.
