Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions apply to all participants on a Common Purpose programme, whether delivered in a physical space or delivered via online means.

 
Attendance and programmes

  • If a participant withdraws before the start of the programme their place may be transferable to another individual who has completed the application process, subject to the agreement of Common Purpose and/or the programme sponsor, organization, or University.
  • If a participant, having started the programme, then withdraws from the programme for any reason, it is not guaranteed that the participant will be allowed by Common Purpose to resume attendance.
  • If a participant misses any part of the programme due to absenteeism, this may affect whether Common Purpose confers graduate status (where applicable) for the Common Purpose programme upon the participant.
  • Common Purpose retains the right to change the advertised agenda for a Common Purpose programme or event without notice to participants.
  • Common Purpose will make every effort to give participants reasonable notice in advance if the venue for an event changes.

Attendance and conduct during Common Purpose programmes 

  • All participants are expected to abide by the Common Purpose Conventions
  • Beyond this, you agree not to use the Common Purpose Online Learning Portal or any third party software used to conduct a Common Purpose programme:
  • Post content or initiate communications which are unlawful, libellous, abusive, obscene, discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Use the Common Purpose Online Learning Portal or any third party software used to conduct a Common Purpose online event or programme for any illegal purpose, including but not limited to conspiring to violate laws.
  • Falsely state, impersonate, or otherwise misrepresent your identity, including but not limited to the use of a pseudonym, or misrepresenting your current or previous positions and qualifications, or your affiliations with a person or entity, past or present.
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any content or initiate communications which include information that you do not have the right to disclose or make available under any law or under contractual or fiduciary relationships (such as insider information, or proprietary and confidential information learned or disclosed as part of employment relationships or under nondisclosure agreements).
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any content or initiate communication that infringes upon patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights or other proprietary rights.
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, “junk mail,” “spam,” “chain letters,” “pyramid schemes,” or any other form of solicitation. This prohibition includes but is not limited to using the Common Purpose Online Learning Portal services or any third party software used to conduct a Common Purpose online event or programme to connect to other users and send them unsolicited promotional messages without their permission.
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any material that contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment.
  • Stalk or harass anyone.
  • When booking and paying for a Common Purpose programme or event venue, Common Purpose is acting as an agent on the participants' behalf. Participants will be subject to the terms and conditions of the venue.
  • It is the participant's responsibility to ensure that while attending the Common Purpose programme and while on any third party premises he or she does not behave in an improper or disorderly manner or in a way which risks or causes damage to property, or in a way which is in breach of the terms and conditions of those premises.
  • In the event of any such improper in person or online behaviour, Common Purpose will have the right to require the participant to withdraw from the programme. In such circumstances, Common Purpose will be entitled to retain any programme fee (where applicable).
  • The participant will also be liable to indemnify Common Purpose for any expenses or other liability it incurs or suffers as a result of any such improper behaviour.

You also agree not to:

  • “Frame” or otherwise simulate the appearance or function of the Common Purpose Online Learning Portal.
  • Take any action that interferes with the proper working of or places an unreasonable load on our infrastructure, including but not limited to unsolicited communications, attempts to gain unauthorized access, or transmission or activation of computer viruses.
  • Forge headers or otherwise manipulate identifiers in order to disguise the origin of any communication transmitted through the website.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the website or servers or networks connected to the website, or disobey any requirements, procedures, policies or regulations of networks connected to the site. 

Force majeure

  • If, due to events outside of their control, Common Purpose is forced to request a postponement or to cancel the programme, Common Purpose will use reasonable endeavours to re-schedule said programme. Where a fee has been paid and it is not possible for Common Purpose to reschedule, Common Purpose will offer a transferable credit for forthcoming programmes.
  • If, due to events outside of their control with respect to COVID guidelines, restrictions of instances of outbreak on said programmes, Common Purpose, in the interest of the health & safety of all participants, may move said programme from in person to either fully online or hybrid at short notice.
 

The following terms and conditions apply only if you have been asked to pay a fee for a Common Purpose programme:

Payment terms

  • Attendance on a Common Purpose programme is conditional on receipt in full of the programme fee by Common Purpose prior to the start of the programme.
  • Payment terms are 14 days from the date of invoice. The invoice will be issued as soon as the participant has been accepted on the programme.
  • The person who has signed the application form agrees to these terms and conditions, and has the authority to do so. In the event he/she is not so authorized, he/she will be personally liable for payment of the agreed fee.
  • All amounts due under this programme are exclusive of value added tax ("VAT"), Goods and Services Tax ("GST"), sales, withholding or other taxes.

Cancellation and refunds

Notice of cancellation must be received in writing by email or post and is subject to the following terms:

  • where notice of cancellation is received fewer than 30 days prior to the first day of the programme, the payer will be liable for 100% of the programme fee.
  • where notice of cancellation is received between 30 and 56 days prior to the first day of the programme, the payer will be liable for 50% of the programme fee
  • where notice of cancellation is received more than 56 days prior to the first day of the programme, Common Purpose will make a full refund of the fee paid
  • No refund of fees will be made for absence due to illness or for withdrawal during the programme for any reason.

Re-registration policy

  • It is at Common Purpose's discretion to agree with the participant the hours/days required to complete the programme (e.g. attending the balance of events, or re-starting the programme in its entirety) in order to be able to achieve graduate status.
  • Participants wishing to defer their place and re-register under this policy will be required to complete a short re-registration form outlining the circumstances and context of their request.
  • The participant's re-registration form will be considered, using the application criteria. Common Purpose cannot guarantee that an application to defer and re-register will be successful.
  • In cases where a participant wishes to defer their place before the programme they were originally accepted onto has started, the re-registration fee policy only applies where the request is received fewer than 30 days prior to the first day of the programme (hence the full fee for the original programme is due in full).
  • Participants can only defer and re-register a programme of the same type. Requests to defer and re-register onto a different programme may incur a higher fee.
  • The 15% re-registration fee can be waived in exceptional circumstances at Common Purpose’s discretion.
