Claire Piela

Claire leads Common Purpose’s global programmes team, including CSCLeaders – our Commonwealth-wide senior leadership programme. Her team also manage Common Purpose’s global customized clients, such as AMEX and EY.

Claire joined Common Purpose in 2010, working in the UK on local programmes before moving to the CSCLeaders team in 2011. Claire has a strong track record in global business development and stakeholder management at Common Purpose. She played a key role in the early development and marketing of the CSCLeaders programme; in particular building relationships, managing partners and sponsors and driving business development in new markets, including Australia, Canada, parts of Asia Pacific and across Africa.

In 2016, Claire spent 15 months on the Common Purpose UK senior team, leading the Manchester and North West business before returning to CSCLeaders and global development work.

Prior to Common Purpose, Claire worked in Marketing, Public Relations and Events Management. Immediately prior to Common Purpose, Claire was an Account Manager in a North West marketing agency, where she managed the events and public relations for the Chartered Institute of Marketing. At the same time, she completed an MSc in International Public Relations. She also has a BSc in Drama and Theatre Arts – she even worked for a short time as a theatre critic (before realizing life as a writer was far too quiet for her!).

Claire loves working with so many creative and passionate colleagues at Common Purpose, as well as meeting such incredibly diverse leaders globally. She never ceases to be inspired by the powerful impact Common Purpose has on individuals and organizations – the stories they tell are always surprising and it stirs her to keep connecting diverse people around the world.

Claire lives in Preston in the UK with her husband, Simon and their two small children, Agnes and Sidney.
