Midlands Operations Director, Louise Teboul, was the inaugural speaker at an event designed to help businesses address the productivity gap in the region.
The presentation focused on a core Common Purpose concept, Leading Beyond Authority, as well as more generally looking at ways to develop a leadership style and personal brand. It was delivered to over thirty business professionals at an event held at Millennium Point in Birmingham, as part of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce’s ‘Growth Through People’ campaign.
Louise’s talk was praised for its honesty and her authenticity as she admitted "Leadership is like swimming: you can't learn it from a book... you need to test things out, and find your own way of leading." She spoke about the importance of developing your own leadership style, unique to you as a person, as well as learning from people who have been there and done it.
Looking at the topic of personal brand, a subject which often comes up on Common Purpose programmes, Louise quoted Amazon’s Jeff Bezos; “Your brand is what other people say about you when you’re not in the room” and offered up some tips to find out what those might be.
