Customized programme elements

Working in partnership with our clients we customize each programme with a diverse range of elements grounded in our experiential approach, our thought leadership and our ability to blend online and face-to-face learning.

Experiential Learning

Leaders are learning from their experiences all the time. A customized programme will accelerate your leaders’ learning by taking them out of their comfort zones and into new situations. We use a range of techniques to create new environments and experiences for participants. They can then reflect on this experience in a structured way. As a result, they are able to transfer new ideas, approaches, thinking and behaviours back into their day-to-day environment.

Leadership Insights

An experienced leader shares stories of the mistakes they have made, the challenges they have faced and the successes they have had when leading change. Held under the Chatham House Rule of confidentiality, this provides stimulus for the group to engage in discussion with the speaker and to gain insights into their own leadership.

The theme of each leadership insight session will be selected to align with the leadership development themes of your programme. Past programmes have included insights from leaders from not-for-profit, private and government sectors as well as a range of industries including – education, technology, transport, management consultancy and finance.

Immersion Visits

An immersion visit is where participants are taken out of their day-to-day routine – in a physical, intellectual and emotional way – allowing them to experience the organization, presented challenge, or system through the lenses of different stakeholders. Being physically outside of their professional environment allows participants to bring different aspects of themselves to the experience and to break through their normal patterns of seeing, listening and understanding. Visits can also assist participants to build a deeper knowledge of, and networks within, the convening city: this fosters deeper relationships with stakeholders. Visits are chosen to reflect the particular leadership needs that the programme is addressing.

We have rigorously-tested risk management procedures that allow us to take participants into challenging new environments safely, where learning can often be the most powerful.

Thought leadership

Our customized programmes are framed in our thought leadership: Leading Beyond Authority and Cultural Intelligence. This encourages participants to go beyond traditional boundaries and organizational structures, where new and different skills are needed to achieve success or lead complex change.

Many successful leaders learn to lead in roles or circumstances where they have clear authority, budget and accountability. When they move beyond this – leading peers, partners and stakeholders – the skills that brought them success may not be enough. To operate effectively they need a different approach to leadership – the ability to lead beyond authority.

As leaders begin to lead beyond their authority they will need Cultural Intelligence (CQ), the ability to cross divides and thrive in multiple cultures. Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is the natural evolution from the now well-established notions of Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Good leaders need all three if they are to lead effectively.

Blended Learning

Blended learning is the seamless integration of both online and face-to-face learning in our programmes. Our online programme content includes videos, articles, exercises and interactive elements. We are able to customize our online content for your programme through the co-design of learning materials. This blend of learning styles enhances the learning process by embedding learning throughout the programme, whether it be pre-programme online elements, or threading the learning between separate face-to-face deliveries.


Our coaching can take different forms. Peer-to-peer coaching is where participants develop skills of appreciative inquiry, listening and effective questioning. This is delivered through action learning groups on the programme. One-to-one coaching is also available from an experienced coach from our faculty in order to develop individuals’ abilities to transform their personal performance.
