AYLP

Youth are estimated to make up over 33% of ASEAN's total population  and set to reach over 220 million by 2038. ASEAN Young Leaders Programme (AYLP) is a platform to bring together young leaders aged 18 to 25 from across all the ten ASEAN member states and all walks of life together.

Launched in 2018 during Singapore's chairmanship of ASEAN, AYLP is a leadership development programme for ASEAN's young leaders to build networks and develop the cultural intelligence needed to work across boundaries and solve complex problems  together.

Rakesh Khurana, Dean, Harvard College

“In our ever more complex and interconnected world which has no obvious historical parallel, Common Purpose has developed a breakthrough idea about the importance of Cultural Intelligence in order to navigate both this new world and its contradictions. It has important implications and raises questions about our current systems for those of us involved in educating and developing our future global citizens.”

How does AYLP work?

The programme is part of Legacy, a global campaign by Common Purpose, which invests in young people across the world so they can become a connected generation of leaders with a clear vision for what their legacy will be.

On the programme, you will explore a real life Challenge and have the opportunity to interact with inspiring leaders in ASEAN, from across business, industry, government and the social sector. You will use the collective knowledge gained from these experiences to come up with innovative ideas in response to the Challenge.

The AYLP 2022 Challenge is: "How can youth play an active role to leverage mega trends in ASEAN?"

The programme will be held in-person at Phnom Penh, Cambodia with the city used as a classroom to immerse yourself in the region's mega trends including Climate & Sustainability, Future of Work and Digital Growth. AYLP 2022 is powered by National Youth Council, Singapore.

On 1 January 2015, NYC began its operations as an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and housed two key institutions: Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) and Youth Corps Singapore. Together, the agency will drive youth development and broaden outreach to young Singaporeans and youth sector organizations.

Lee Quan Sheng, ITE College Central

“I learnt how to face problems in the world, how we can deal with it by inventing solutions, how to plan the situation that we are trying to solve, and falling in love with the problems.”
