My AHA moment, Wendy Joseph

"Meeting the business entrepreneurs during our course. One in particular who was extremely creative and I thought brave in his career change. He looked at me and said 'You are sitting here because you know you want to do this, and you can do this, keep going'. As a much older student looking for a career change after a very long (older than most of my peers at uni) and rewarding career, his belief in me keeps me going. I am more confident now than ever before."

  1. What are you most passionate about?
Ethical leadership and human factors values in organizational culture.

  2. What/who inspires you?
My mum, gran and big sis. We’re from a very small County Durham village, we lived opposite the ‘coke’ works. My mum and gran were great business-women – ‘before their time’. Gran died four years ago at 100. My big sis is now a very successful international marketing director, winning major awards with her team at Paris Airshow last week for helping their client secure deals for over £50.2 billion.

  3. What was your biggest learning from the programme?
How brilliant the women who taught me are, and if I stay focused, I can regain my confidence by using use the opportunities my degree and the Common Purpose course gave me. There’s no reason I can’t succeed again in my second career. Biggest learning moment? Focus on my strengths to hit my goal.
