I normally go to the rugby with my friends. Tickets don’t often sell out, unless it’s an all-blacks game, so you can normally just rock up on the day. You have to dress for the weather because it’s bloody cold. We call the stadium the cake tin; it’s completely circular and so the wind just goes around and around. You wear the team colours and wave flags, but there isn’t any segregation of the different fans; it’s very rare for there to be bad blood between sports teams in New Zealand. Don’t get me wrong there are some die-hard fans – especially the old folks. But it’s a very friendly, inclusive atmosphere.
