Julie Sanders is a Professor of English Literature and Drama and currently, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at Newcastle University where she has worked since 2015 having previously been at the University of Nottingham where she was Head of English (2010-13) and then Vice Provost for two years at Nottingham's China campus. She has published many books and articles in her research area of Shakespeare and early modern literature and is also currently a trustee for Shakespeare’s Globe, Northern Stage, and the Shakespeare North Playhouse. Her work at Newcastle has focused on academic strategy, Equality Diversity and Inclusion, and Social and environmental justice (the University’s core values work). She is a global ambassador for the Living Values project of the Magna Charta Observatory for universities worldwide and an alumna of Common Purpose’s Global Leaders programme in 2018. From 1 October 2022, she will become the next Principal of Royal Holloway University of London.
