Alex Dick is Finance Director at the Preston Road Neighbourhood
Development Company, a charity that was set up as part of a ten
year government funding regeneration project in the UK.
After taking part in a Common Purpose course in Hull, Alex
says he's started "restructuring roles and responsibilities
within my team, to free-up my time to concentrate on new
opportunities and to be part of more networks. I realised that
although you continue to do 'your job', I needed to take a step
back to develop my role and take more of a lead on possible future
opportunities for my organisation, and by being part of Common
Purpose, I have a better insight into the workings and politics of
the city."
He also found the opportunity to host a visit on a course day
invaluable: "We were able to promote our facility with almost
thirty new users which has led to further bookings and raised
perceptions of what my organisation does and what it's
about."
Of the course, Alex goes on to say: "I think it's
a great opportunity to see how all sector's work and the impact it
has on the City of Hull and the surrounding area. I also felt that
it improves the perception that participants had of what goes on
within the City and by doing this, promotes the City in a better
way. It was professionally run, and the background information
was useful not only for each visit, but for future use."
