Main purpose of the role

Common Purpose is a not-for-profit leadership development organization. Our objective is to develop leaders who can cross boundaries. A not-for-profit, we run programmes in over 70 cities worldwide. Founded in 1989, over 4,000 people become Common Purpose Alumni every year.

We are currently looking for a dynamic and ambitious professional to join us as Programme Manager in our Students team, based in Singapore. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to take the next step in their professional career. Full of energy, drive and with a can-do attitude you will work closely with the Programme Director for Common Purpose Student Experiences in South Asia and Asia-Pacific.

Operating within a dynamic and fast-paced environment you will be responsible for planning, preparing and delivering our student work in the Asia-Pacific region. We are looking for someone who shares our values and is passionate about leadership development. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a training delivery or events role showing entrepreneurial initiative.

Salary: SGD 40 – 42,000

Overall Objectives and Person specification

The main purpose of this global role is to manage activities for Common Purpose Student Experiences programmes and to support the work of the international delivery team. The role includes international travel to support the delivery of our student leadership programmes globally.

Scope of the role

This role involves: 

  • Lead and manage on multiple student programmes in South Asia and Asia-Pacific, including the recruitment, design, development and delivery
  • Facilitate these programmes to establish maximum impact and the involvement of all participants
  • Engage with alumni across the globe and be the point of contact for them. Source and train volunteer co-ordinators from our student alumni to support regional delivery
  • Build and sustain relationships with a range of Universities and people in senior positions and key decision-makers across higher educational institutions in order to increase volume of custom and assure this is repeated
  • Manage multiple stakeholders, sponsors and clients in a professional and effective manner; where applicable become sole client relationship manager with sponsors and universities
  • Promote the brand of Common Purpose Student Experiences and deliver the Common Purpose campaign and vision within the framework of Common Purpose structures
  • Use IT systems extensively to ensure that programme data, contacts and knowledge are comprehensively recorded and transparent
  • Be a leading representative of Common Purpose Student Experiences in the region. 
Person specification

Essential qualifications, experience and competences:

  • Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures
  • Experience of building and maintaining strong working relationships and partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including the ability to create and develop opportunities without supervision on their own initiative
  • Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience of proactively identifying and solving problems
  • Demonstrable sound knowledge of, and interest in, local and global issues and current affairs.
  • Ability to operate both independently and in a team
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of people either by phone, email or face-to-face, in a friendly but professional way
  • Able and willing to travel for short periods of time and at short notice and outside of normal working hours (programmes with long haul flights mean working weekends and some programmes into evenings)
  • Demonstrating personal presence and an ability to make an impact.
  • Experience of facilitating programmes and inspiring confidence in participant groups.
  • Event organization experience
  • An understanding of and commitment to Common Purpose’s mission, values and behaviours.


Desirable qualifications, experience and competences:

  • An undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in any subject
  • Previous experience of operating within a training organization
  • Experience of working with student groups
  • Ability to speak multiple language
