Common Purpose is a not-for-profit leadership development organization. Our objective is to develop leaders who can cross boundaries. A not-for-profit, we run programmes in over 70 cities worldwide. Founded in 1989, over 4,000 people become Common Purpose Alumni every year.

We are currently looking for an enterprising and ambitious professional to join us as Senior Programme Director in our Leeds and Yorkshire team. This represents a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to take the next step in their professional career.

Experience of a hybrid commercial/not-for-profit environment would be a plus.

Department/Office: Common Purpose Leeds & West Yorkshire

Responsible to: Operations Director, Common Purpose UK

Grade: G

Salary: £34,000-£36,000per annum

Physical Location: Bradford               

Duration: Permanent full time (5 days per week) 

Overall Objectives and Person specification

The main purpose of this role is to sell and deliver Common Purpose leadership/ educational programmes across Leeds and West Yorkshire. The role will also be required to work and travel across the UK from time to time supporting other members of the wider CPUK team as part of Common Purpose’s flexible resource model.

Overall Objectives

This role entails, but is not limited to, the following:

1)    Sales/Client Management

  • Sell the open & customized programmes to a variety of customers, with particular focus on the private sector, meeting financial targets
  • Convene a senior and diverse participant group drawing from an ever-widening pool each year and address any gaps
  • Build and sustain relationships with a diverse range of organisationsand people in senior positions and key decision-makers

 

2)    Planning and delivering programme activities and developing the curriculum 

  • Plan and deliver challenging, balanced and relevant curriculum for all programmes
  • Facilitate all programmes to ensure the involvement of all participants and maximum impact

 

3)    Promoting Common Purpose in Leeds and West Yorkshire

  • Ensure that the Common Purpose image locally is high profile, independent and professional
  • Market Common Purpose programmes and the campaign through a range of communication channels – including social media
  • Promote and deliver the Common Purpose campaign and vision within the framework of Common Purpose structures (the Charter, Charter@Work, management and governance structures)
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new ideas at a local and national level and work closely with the wider Common Purpose UK team

 

4)    Stakeholder Management

  • Link Common Purpose alumni into the running of local Common Purpose activities whenever possible, and deliver alumni events
  • Work effectively with local Common Purpose Chair and Advisory Group in accordance with Common Purpose governance arrangements

 

5)    Line Management

  • Manage, motivate and develop the Business Manager reporting to you, operating effectively within the Common Purpose management structure
  • Manage an efficient local office, which maximises the use of Common Purpose systems and implements all policies and procedures
Person specification

Essential qualifications, experience and competences:

  • Demonstrable experience of generating high levels of income from appropriately marketing and selling goods and services across a range of sectors
  • Demonstrable sound knowledge of local and national civic issues and current affairs
  • Strong experience of building sustainable relationships, and of gaining support for campaigns or programmes at a senior level across all sectors
  • Ability to respond appropriately to different situations and personalities
  • Facilitation experience with senior and diverse groups
  • The ability to steer a balanced and non-aligned path, especially under pressure
  • The ability to motivate and manage a small team and work effectively within a team
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
  • Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office
  • Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures
  • Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Experience of proactively identifying and addressing issues
  • Able and willing to travel to UK locations for short periods of time and at short notice
  • An understanding of and commitment to Common Purpose’s mission, values and behaviours 

 

Desirable qualifications, experience and competences:

  • Experience of managing budgets and making financial forecasts
  • Experience of running an effective and efficient office
