Main purpose of the role

The successful candidate will have some experience of working in a similar role and experience of a hybrid commercial/not-for-profit environment would be a plus.

Physical Location: London, Manchester or Bradford, with UK-wide travel            

Salary: £22,000 - £24,000 per annum

Duration: Full-Time Permanent

Overall Objectives and Person specification

The main purpose of this role is to assist in the planning, project management and delivery of Common Purpose student leadership development programmes across the UK. The role will also be required to work and travel across England and Scotland to support our programmes.

Scope of the role

This role involves: 

  • Being responsible for the planning and project management of programmes in order to deliver them to a high quality
  • Facilitating programmes, initially co-chairing with an experienced Common Purpose chair then taking the lead role
  • Chairing student programmes, including an online blended learning offering and ensuring that our students develop their knowledge and understanding of our programmes
  • Managing our client relationships with universities and relationship management of speakers and visit hosts across the UK
  • Understanding and managing the curriculum to provide an authentic and stimulating Common Purpose experience in a way which provides excellent value for time for participants
  • Adapting your approach where necessary to cater to a diverse range of learning styles while ensuring the programme is accessible to all students, especially disabled students
  • Gathering evaluation data at the end of programmes through video interviews with participants and producing an evaluation report for each programme using the template
  • Proactively project manage the programme from point of sale through to evaluation of the programme
  • Updating recruitment flyers and running information sessions for students while working with the Marketing and Communications team to develop a communications and social media plan for each programme
  • Sourcing speakers and visiting hosts for each session within the programme, ensuring it is relevant to the location, balanced in its perspective and eye-opening for participants
  • Having a strong understanding of how to communicate with local Common Purpose UK teams to ensure a consistent approach to contacts, clients and alumni
  • Ensuring that, from the point of sale, all programmes meet the high standards that Common Purpose and our clients expect along with working closely with the rest of the team to maintain professional relationships and trust with clients
  • Implementation of the social media strategy for the team, working with Communications and Marketing team to promote our programmes and impact
Person specification

Essential qualifications, experience and competences:

  • Experience of public speaking and/or facilitation and being able to facilitate in a balanced and non-aligned way, especially under pressure
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience of project management of complex situations with multiple stakeholders
  • The ability to assimilate complex information, identify key issues and communicate these clearly and concisely at the same time ready to learn and take risks where appropriate
  • Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures while being able to operate both independently and in a team
  • Self-starter with experience of a flexible approach in managing and prioritising multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Experience of working with diverse groups, preferably including students
  • Able and willing to travel around the UK for short periods of time and at short notice.  
  • An understanding of and commitment to Common Purpose’s mission, values and behaviours
  • Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office, databases, Skype and other applications and online tools 


Desirable qualifications, experience and competences:

  • University degree or three years of relevant professional experience
  • Understanding of the UK University structure and aims of the sector
  • Understanding of the Widening Participation/Access agenda within Higher Education
  • Previous experience of operating within a training or educational organisation
  • Experience of facilitating blended learning programmes and different ways to get the most out of online learning in order to complement face-to-face learning
  • Experience of remote working in a geographically dispersed team
