Senior Programme Director

Claire Piela

Claire brings her experience of working with organizations and leaders around the world to her current role, where she oversees Common Purpose’s programmes and activities across Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire and Lancashire, including the design and delivery of open, customized and student programmes. Claire is looking forward to building on the success of Common Purpose’s work in Manchester and the North West, where there is a strong cross-sector network of alumni and supporters. As a Lancashire girl, she is passionate about the North and its future; developing the leaders of today and tomorrow so they shape a North which thrives and benefits everyone.

Claire started her journey with Common Purpose working across Lancashire, Cumbria and South Yorkshire before joining the CSCLeaders team in 2012 to help develop a Commonwealth-wide senior leadership development programme. Here she was responsible for identifying senior and diverse leaders across the Commonwealth, building relationships in new geographies and working closely with sponsors and key supporters globally. She is proud to have been part of growing CSCLeaders and introducing Common Purpose to many new countries and organizations.

Prior to Common Purpose, Claire worked in Marketing, Public Relations and Events Management. Immediately prior to Common Purpose, Claire was an Account Manager in a North West marketing agency, where she managed the events and public relations for the Chartered Institute of Marketing across the North whilst completing an Msc in International Public Relations. She also holds a BSc in Drama and Theatre Arts.

Claire has the privilege of speaking with people from diverse backgrounds and organizations. She loves connecting with different people around the world, introducing them to each other and sharing energy and ideas. She is continually inspired by their stories and loves bringing diverse people together and taking them on incredible leadership journeys with Common Purpose.

Claire lives in Preston in the UK with her husband, Simon, and daughter, Agnes. Claire enjoys being outdoors and she cycles, runs, swims, camps and goes on long walks up big hills with her family whenever she finds the opportunity.
